How Do I Get a Transcript of an Instagram Video?

Get the transcript of a public Instagram Reel in three simple steps. No software or account is required, with TXT, SRT, and VTT exports.

To get a transcript of an Instagram video, copy its public Reel link, paste it into ReelToText, and generate the text in your browser.

The current version is deliberately focused: it supports an individual public Instagram Reel whose URL contains /reel/. It does not accept private posts, Stories, feed-post URLs, or Reels collection pages.

Try it now

Have a Reel link? Get the transcript now.

Paste one public Instagram Reel URL. It's free to try, and no sign-up is required.

No link yet? Leave the field empty to try https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNkpzuaRy-5/.

Step 1: Check that the video is supported

Before copying anything, confirm these two details.

The Reel must be public

Instagram prevents external services from retrieving private content. If the account or Reel is private, ReelToText cannot access the media. Changing someone else's privacy settings is not an option; use only content you are permitted to process.

The URL must point to one Reel

Use the singular /reel/ format:

Supported Not supported
instagram.com/reel/ABC123/ instagram.com/reels/
One public Reel A collection, profile, Story, or feed post

The plural /reels/ address opens a collection rather than identifying one video. ReelToText rejects it to prevent accidental batch processing.

Open the public Reel in the Instagram app or a browser.

  • On mobile, tap the share icon and select Copy link.
  • On desktop, use the post menu or copy the URL from the address bar while the individual Reel is open.

Paste the address somewhere temporarily if you want to inspect it. Tracking parameters after the main URL are acceptable, but the hostname and the /reel/ path must be valid.

Step 3: Generate the transcript

Open ReelToText, paste the copied link into the form, and select Generate Transcript.

ReelToText validates the URL, retrieves the public media on the server, processes the spoken audio with speech recognition, and returns text plus timestamped segments to the browser. The service does not create a permanent media library or saved-transcript account.

Processing time is not fixed. It depends on the Reel, network conditions, and upstream services, so keep the page open until a result or a clear error message appears.

What do you get when it finishes?

Output Description
On-page transcript The recognized spoken text, ready to read and select
Copy The complete transcript placed on your clipboard
TXT Plain text without timing information
SRT Numbered subtitle cues with timestamps
VTT WebVTT captions for compatible web players and tools

Use TXT when you are researching, editing, or repurposing the words. Use SRT or VTT when you need captions aligned with the source video.

Quick checklist before you begin

  • The account and Reel are public.
  • The URL uses instagram.com/reel/... in the singular.
  • The Reel still exists and is available in your region.
  • The video contains audible speech rather than only music.
  • You are submitting one link, not several links or a collection.

Provider and system failures do not use credits. Paid plans include a content-failure allowance; only excess content failures can use 0.25 credit after confirmation.
